Wake up; I’m back on the wood floor. It’s court day! Take a shower and get dressed in what Kim calls my “costume”. Andrew puts on some slacks and a decent shirt. We drive off to the court area, hoping to speak to a public defender. No one is helpful, at all. Drive back towards Uptown, and stop off at a café for breakfast/lunch. Order pancakes with sausage and eggs, Andrew has an omelet. Ask for the check, a table next to ours paid for it already. Fuuuuck. Get up, and thank them profusely. They thank me in return, and we leave. Realize that in our confusion over no bill, Andrew and I didn’t tip. Drive back around the block and hold the car idle while he sprints in to throw cash on the table. Return to Kim and Brian’s, where Steve and Yuki catch a ride with us down to Lake Pontchartrain. Pick up some trash found blowing around and throw it in a trash can. Sit and watch fish jump and ponder why. Fish Olympics, escape plans, and shark aversion come up. Steve and Yuki dislike our ideas. They claim evolution, or some other witch craft. Drive them to the French Quarter where Steve wants to check out cemeteries. As we drop them off, Andrew starts to pull out and I grab him. As if grabbing someone will stop them. Yuki was still getting out, New York City cab style, both passengers leaving from the right side of the car. Breathe a sigh of relief, and continue to the court room. Enter with Andrew, and sit in the court room, waiting for his name to come up. District attorney skips over his name by accident, reads it as the last name to be called. Judge drops the trespassing charge, leave it as public intoxication. $400 fine. Three time offenders with harsher crimes but local are give $200 instead. Drive off with newly freed Andrew and go back to Kim and Brian’s. Andrew still has to drive home so he and I grab dinner at College something, where the interior looks much fancier than the exterior. Good meal, drink 2 beers. I’m back. Andrew drives me back to Kim and Brian’s. Say our goodbyes. Six years in the waiting had been this reunion. Perfect. Walk inside. Kim and Brian are out at dinner. Grab “Extras” and get back to reading. Later chat with Kim and Brian. Look at flights out tomorrow. Get the number to a cab. Pack up a bit. Sleep.
